Divine filiation is the foundation of the call to holiness and spiritual life. God is our Father, and He watches over each one of us as if we were His only children. The wedding feast at Cana shows us the greatness of the vocation to marriage.
1. You have received the spirit of filiation, when we cry, "Abba! Father!" (Rom 8:15). Can it be seen, from the way I tackle problems, that I know that God really loves me as his child? Am I aware that he will never leave me on my own?
2. God is a Father — your Father! — full of warmth and infinite love. Call him Father frequently and tell him, when you are alone, that you love him, that you love him very much!, and that you feel proud and strong because you are his son (The Forge, 331). What could I say to our Lord now, in order to feel his tenderness and his infinite love?
3. I am with you always, to the close of the age (Mt 28:20). Do I realise that this promise is also made by Jesus to me personally? Does this consideration give me peace and security in my daily life?
4. Have this mind among yourselves, which was in Christ Jesus (Phil 2:5). Do I take advantage of my daily Gospel reading to get to know and love Jesus more, and to ask him to identify my heart more with his?
5. When the wine failed, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine" (Jn 2:3). At Cana, Mary asks, insists, without losing heart, with perseverance. And... she succeeds (The Way, 502). Do I have particular needs for which I could turn to my Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, asking her to help me to pray for them with boldness and simplicity?
6. At Cana Jesus performed the first of his miracles, and his disciples believed in him (Jn 2:11). How do I enable God to work through my actions and words?
