Activities

Riverside Study Center sponsors a number of formational programs for men in New York and New Jersey.

Weekend spiritual retreats

At Murray Hill Conference Center. From Thursday evening to Sunday lunchtime. Various dates throughout the year. Conducted by priests of Opus Dei, these silent retreats consist of daily Mass, spiritual talks by priests as an aid to prayer, adoration, rosary, stations of the cross, and practical talks by laymen.

Evenings of recollection

Experience the peace and tranquility of a quiet time of prayer, get some practical advice on how to live your faith and make a resolution or two to improve in a certain area of your life. An evening of recollection is a mini-retreat that lasts about two hours. It includes two meditations preached by a priest of Opus Dei, a practical talk by a layman, a brief examination of conscience, and Benediction with the Blessed Sacrament. There is also time for Confession and a social gathering at the end.

At Murray Hill Conference Center. First Monday of each month.

At Murray Hill Conference Center. First Tuesday of each month. (Directed primarily at young fathers.)

At Southmont (South Orange, NJ). First Tuesday and Saturday of each month.

Fridays at Riverside

Directed primarily at undergraduate and graduate students, Fridays at Riverside start at 6pm with a time for personal prayer, sometimes helped by a meditation preached by an Opus Dei priest. This is followed by dinner at 6:30pm and then some evening activity such as a guest speaker or a musical evening.

Father-and-son clubs (at Southmont center)

Sherpa club. Open to fathers and their sons in 5th through 7th grade. It teaches the boys to become men of character. They learn to overcome difficulties, to stick to a task until it is finished, to respect others, to aspire to higher ideals. For the fathers, the club provides tools to help them educate their sons to be this sort of man. Fathers are expected to attend the monthly meetings with their sons. Meetings take place at Southmont (normally) on the 3rd Sunday of the month from 2-4 PM.

Frontiers club. Similar to Sherpa, Frontiers is open to fathers and their sons in 1st through 4th grade. Meetings take place at Southmont (normally) on the 3rd Sunday of every other month from 1-3 PM.
